This week, Winged IT’s team was invited on behalf of the Polish Ministry of Development and Technology to participate in a strategic meeting dedicated to the future of Poland’s startup ecosystem. The initiative aimed to gather in-depth insights from key market stakeholders to help define new development directions and support instruments for Polish innovative companies. The conclusions from the discussions will serve as an important contribution to the new Startup Ecosystem Development Strategy for 2027–2035.
Current State of Poland’s Startup Ecosystem
As is well-known, Poland already has successful examples of startups and innovative companies competing globally, building advanced technologies and internationally recognized brands, like ElevenLabs, ICEYE, Booksy, Brainly, and DocPlanner. These success stories demonstrate the strong potential of Polish entrepreneurs, engineers, and scientists.
At the same time, to multiply such achievements, systemic changes are necessary to increase the maturity and cohesion of the entire startup ecosystem. Poland’s competitiveness should increasingly be built on intangible assets like data, talent, technology, and the ability to effectively commercialize them.
Key Challenges Facing Startups
The meeting included several focus group sessions addressing the most pressing barriers faced by early-stage and scaling companies. One of the most frequently highlighted topics was the challenges that many startups face:
- Legal & Regulatory: legal and tax requirements, bureaucracy, and labor law simplifications.
- Finance & Growth: access to growth capital, capital liquidity, and the company lifecycle.
- Recruitment & Talent: difficulties in attracting specialized talent ready to join early-stage companies, shortage of experienced managers able to scale businesses.
- Awareness of Polish Tech: limited awareness among some investors of the true scale and quality of Polish innovation.
