OpenAI announced that Jakub Pachocki will be assuming the role of Chief Scientist following Ilya Sutskever’s departure from the company. Altman expressed confidence in Pachocki’s leadership abilities, stating in a tweet that he believes Pachocki “will lead us to make rapid and safe progress towards our mission.”

Altman’s tweet on X, formerly known as Twitter, declared, “Jakub is going to be our new Chief Scientist. Jakub is also easily one of the greatest minds of our generation; I am thrilled he is taking the baton here. He has overseen many of our most critical projects, and I am very confident he will lead us to make rapid and safe progress towards our mission of ensuring that AGI benefits everyone.”

Currently, Jakub is also a postdoctoral researcher in Jelani Nelson’s group at Harvard University, focusing on efficient algorithm design, particularly for machine learning applications. Before his tenure at Harvard, he earned his PhD in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University under the guidance of Gary L. Miller. Jakub’s academic journey began with a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Warsaw.

We congratulate Jakub on his new role and are delighted that Poles are gaining international recognition. That’s the programming potential we have!
