While the world talks about London, Frankfurt, and Zurich, the Polish FinTech sector is a revolution of its own, blending technology, banking, and user adoption like nowhere else in Europe. Over the past decade, the country has built a mature and profitable ecosystem, with Warsaw at its heart, home to nearly half of all fintech companies.

With strong collaboration between banks, startups, and investors, the country is transforming domestic finance and preparing for the next wave of digital innovation, including Web3 and blockchain technologies.

FinTech Ecosystem in Poland

The Polish FinTech sector is growing rapidly and sustainably. As reported in the “Map of the Polish FinTech 2025”, the number of companies increased from 167 in 2018 to 383 in 2025, with 45% based in Warsaw. The market is diverse: small agile firms (31% of companies) coexist with large players employing over 100 people (30%), and 34% generate revenues exceeding PLN 100 million annually.

Unlike many global tech hubs, profitability is high; 86% of fintechs report profits, indicating strong business models and a solid foundation for international expansion.

For many years, the payments sector has been the most represented within the industry. According to the report, 76 companies operate in this area. The second largest group consists of fintech software providers, followed by companies offering financial management services for businesses.

Next in the ranking are insurtech companies, followed by lending and credit providers, and cybersecurity and identity verification firms. More than 20 companies also operate in personal finance management services and online currency exchange platforms.

BLIK: Poland’s Crown Jewel in Digital Payments

At the heart of Polish FinTech and payment innovation is BLIK, a national mobile payment standard developed collaboratively by banks to avoid market fragmentation. In the first half of 2025, BLIK users completed 1.39 billion transactions worth PLN 207.3 billion. Active users reached 19.4 million, and average daily transactions hit 7.4 million. Originally dominant in e-commerce, BLIK now powers P2P transfers and contactless payments, which are growing 86% year-on-year.

BNPL: The Next Wave of Consumer Finance

Poland is also at the forefront of BNPL adoption. The market is expected to reach USD 1.74 billion in 2025 and USD 2.80 billion by 2030. Already, 62% of Poles have used BNPL services, surpassing countries like Sweden. BLIK’s entry into BNPL with BLIK Pay Later accelerates adoption further, with average transaction values more than double those of standard BLIK payments.

Building the Foundations of a Web3 Economy

Although crypto-specific startups in Central Europe are still few, Poland’s broader tech scene is accelerating fast. Global players are reshaping the digital landscape: Microsoft has pledged $700 million to cybersecurity, while Google and others are investing in IT, rail, and defense. Combined with EU recovery funds, this capital is building infrastructure that blockchain ventures can use.

This momentum is turning Central Europe from an experimental market into a test bed for mainstream financial innovation. In Warsaw, early-stage blockchain startups are emerging alongside fintech accelerators that now attract international investors. Poland expects over PLN 650 billion (€160 billion) in investment flows in 2025, with IT and innovation as priorities, creating strong tailwinds for Web3.

But it is not only investments and startups that are shaping Poland’s crypto sector. Hackathons, meetups, and workshops in Warsaw are drawing developers and entrepreneurs, while universities such as the Warsaw University of Technology are adding blockchain courses to strengthen talent pipelines.

Poland is laying the foundations for a robust Web3 and crypto sector driven by capital, policy, and growing everyday adoption.
